J. Collinson & Sons Rocking Horse | |
A good dapple rocking horse by Jervis Collinson & Sons, they are the longest surviving rocking horse maker in the UK I believe C.1836- C.1986. This company was always a small family concern employing only a few workers, mostly family members. As the story goes in 1851 Queen Victoria visited the workshop and of all the differently coloured horses available, she choose to ride, side saddle of course, a dapple grey horse and ever since then the company has only made dapple greys in honour of her visit. This horse is a fine example.
